What do people ask about Ground Covered?

Does my data leave my device?

No. Your activity files are read in your browser and kept in this browser's storage; nothing you import is uploaded, and there is no account.

The app contacts a few hosts for map tiles, street data and place names, and never sends them your files; Where is my data lists each one.

Which watches and apps work?

Garmin, Strava and Apple Health exports work, and so do FIT, GPX and TCX files from Coros, Polar, Suunto, Wahoo and most other watches.

You can also plug a watch into a computer and drop its Activity folder on the map; How to upload has the steps for each.

Does it work on an iPhone?

Yes. Open Ground Covered in your iPhone's browser, choose the export ZIP from the Files app, and keep the screen on until the import summary appears.

Is it free?

Yes. Ground Covered is free, with no account, no ads and no paid tier today.

How is it different from Strava's heatmap?

Ground Covered reads your own files on your device, with no account and no subscription, while Strava's personal heatmap is built on Strava's servers from the activities you uploaded there.

Compare Ground Covered with Strava's heatmaps, CityStrides and Wandrer.

What is Home Turf?

Home Turf is the street view of Ground Covered: it colors the streets around your home by how often and how fast you cover them.

World is the other view, and it shows every activity you have recorded, wherever it was.

How do privacy zones work?

After your first import, Ground Covered hides everything within 300 m (0.19 mi) of the spot where most of your runs start and end.

You can resize a zone, switch zones off or add more in Settings, and a zone stays hidden in saved images, posters and shared web pages too.

Can I share a map?

Yes. The Share button saves the map as a poster, and a run or your filtered runs as an image or one web page.

Shared files are made on your device and go only where you send them, with your privacy zones cut out.

What happens if I clear my browser?

Your imported activities live in this browser's storage, so clearing the site's data removes them from Ground Covered.

Your original files stay where they are, so you can import them again.

Who made it?

Ground Covered is made by cdemu-builds.
